Beledweyne district in Somalia has been disproportionately affected by floods for a long
time, and it is a recurring problem that causes significant damage to properties,
displacement of people, and disruption of community structures. As a consequence of
the floods, families are forced to flee their homes, often facing sudden and chaotic
situations that increase the likelihood of children becoming separated from their parents
or caregivers. Additionally, the challenging living conditions in temporary shelters and
overcrowded areas raise concerns about the increased occurrence of GBV incidents.
The floods in Beledweyne are caused by a combination of factors such as heavy rainfall, poor drainage systems, and water flowing from the highlands of Ethiopia. This report aims to highlight the needs and challenges faced by the people of Beledweyne during the recent floods and provide recommendations to mitigate the effects of floods. In addition to highlighting the potential risks and emphasize the urgent need for targeted interventions to protect the vulnerable populations affected by floods.
